Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, GOC 3 Corps along with Major General R Singh, GOC 57 Mtn Div met Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and senior State Govt officials at 5.30 pm today.
During the meeting they discussed the prevailing security scenario arising out of the alleged killing of Th Manorama Devi on Jul 11 2004, said a PIB (DW) statement.
Following a full appraisal of the situation, the Corps Commander assured the Chief Minister that full cooperation will be extended to the Judicial Inquiry ordered by the State Govt into the incident.
Further, the Court of Inquiry set up by the Assam Rifles will be expeditiously completed and appropriate follow up action will be taken on the basis of established facts/findings.
In the interim period, the persons concerned have been taken off their appointments.
Once the findings are finalised, strictest disciplinary action will be taken up against those found guilty.
The public will be kept fully informed.
The Corps Commander also assured that the exercise of powers by the armed forces under the AFSPA 1958 will be strictly in accordance with prescribed procedure and parameters and in full sensitivity to the laws of the land.
He reiterated that the armed forces personnel are deployed to assist the State law and order machinery in maintaining peace and tranquility in the State for the benefit of the people and are under strict instruction to discharge their duties and responsibilities with due diligence and responsiveness to public sensitivities.
