Imphal, July 16:
Though surface transport along Imphal-Dimapur road has been cut off due to landslides over the last few days, it is said that there is no cause for fear of shortage of petrol and diesel among the people of the State.
As informed by president of All Manipur Petroleum and Tanker Drivers' Union, Y Bopendra the existing oil stock at the Government Oil Depot at Chingmeirong will adequately last for fifteen days.
So there is no fear of shortage of petrol and diesel in the State at the moment.
In view of the prevailing situation, he also fervently appealed to those who are selling fuel in black not to take advantage of the situation and sell petrol and diesel at exorbitant rates.
He further informed that the Union has distributed food and other relief materials to the drivers and handymen of the oil tankers which are stranded at Kharkhati in Assam due to the landslides.
Complaining the lack of concern on the part of the Government towards the plight of the drivers, Bopendra rued that the Government has not made any arrangement to provide relief material to the drivers who are unable to reach Imphal and are being stranded on the highway.
It is learnt that around 120 loaded-oil tankers are still being held up at Kharkhati in Assam.
