Imphal, July 16:
Even as the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency MP Mani Charenamei has apprised the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on twin slaying of Thangjam Manorama Devi and Saichung village Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai by para-military force personnel Federal Party of Manipur strongly condemned the silence of SPF Govt on the matters.
Referring to the Manorama and Jamkholet killings that have gripped and grieved the general public MP Charenamei mentioned in his memorandum that incidents of killing innocent persons have been going on under the immunity of Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958.Urging the Union Home Minister for necessary perusal and prompt action for repealing draconian laws promulgated at Manipur, Charenamei said "It has not served any positive purpose rather it has become an instrument in the hands of the armed forces to harass the innocent people of the region ultimately alienating them from the mainstream".
He also demanded award of compensation to next of kin of the bereaved families as well as order Judicial inquiry into the incidents.
The MP also submitted a separate memorandum to Shivraj Patil highlighting the suffering of the people of Senapati and Tamenglong districts due to landslides at Mao, Tamei and Nungba sub-divisions.
Stating that roads have been washed away at Mao and surface transportation totally cut off following damages to bridges by heavy rainfall since the last few weeks, he also urged the Union Home Minister to depute a central team to assess the damages and also asked for immediate release of financial assistance to the effected people.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of repeated instances of security force personnel committing excesses against the innocent public the FPM stated that O Ibobi Singh has no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister.
Lamenting non-action of the SPF Govt despite adequate knowledge that arrest memo was issued while arresting Manorama the FPM said failure to register an FIR vividly portrays the inefficiency of governance.
Meanwhile, representatives of 32 women organizations today submitted separate memoranda to the Manipur Governor, Chief Minister, 9 Sector Assam Rifles DIG and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil pertaining to various issues including the brutal killing of Manorama.
