Imphal, July 16:
A team of the United Committee Manipur led by its president Sapamcha Jadumani toured Phikomei village at Mao to emphatise with the suffering of the people who have been adversely affected by the massive landslides and mudslides.
A sum of Rs 10,000 was also given to the affected villagers by UCM, said a statement.
UCM said that the chairman of the relief committee, B Neli and ex-president of the Village Development committee, A Asingho gave a detailed account of the suffering of the people to the visiting team.
The villagers expressed deep gratitude to the UCM for personally coming over to share their suffering.
UCM president Jadumani also noted with regret that though neighboring State Nagaland has donated about Rs 2 lakhs to the affected people, nothing much has come forward from the people of Manipur.
This is unfortunate, said the UCM leader.
Till July 15, the people received Rs 50,000 from Francis Ngajokpa and another Rs Rs 50,000 from RK Theko.
However till date no notable aid has come from the Government, the villagers informed the UCM team, said the statement.
So far the villagers have received some rice from the DC and SDO and nothing much else.
At the moment about 135 houses have been damaged by the landslide and over 650 people have been rendered homeless, said UCM.
The villagers also expressed their dissatisfaction over the conduct of the DIG and SP, added UCM.
