Protest demonstrations were witnessed over different issues at different parts of the capital city here today.
While dried fish wholesalers demonstrated near the Kasturi bridge decrying imposition of heavy monetary demands from various UG groups, employees of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments demonstrated in front of their respective offices to protest the bomb attack at the residence of AO of Agriculture Deparment Ningombam, Sarat on the night of May 8 even as newly elected councillors of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) staged a sit-in-protest in front of the Students' Home of the University denouncing the recent office memorandum of the Chancellor not to recognise any student's union until the formation of the union is sought under the statutes of the University.
Local residents of Iroisemba also staged a Wakat Meepham at Iroisemba today in protest against the abduction of a son of Dean of Central Agriculture University Dr Naorem Iboton by suspected KCP activists over ransom demand.
During the protest demonstration of the dried fish wholesalers, all the shops were shut down.
The aggrieved wholesalers have also informed that the shut down would continue until resolution of the matter amicably.
On the other hand, in the bomb attack at the Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi residence of Agriculture Officer N Sarat on the night of May 8, wife of the officer was wounded.
Meanwhile, newly council members of Manipur University demonstrated in condemnation of the recent office memorandum of the Chancellor declaring that the University shall not recognise any student's union until the formation of the union is sought under the Statutes of the University.
After the sit-in, they also took out a protest mark till A-Block of the University and shouted slogan demanding resignation of the resignation of the Vice Chancellor on moral ground.
Protest demonstration was also witnessed at Iroisemba with local residents coming out strongly against the abduction of a youth over ransom demand.
