Imphal, May 13 2009:
The Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK) has strongly condemned the act of immodesty to women committed by women police personnel in the name of combing operation that was carried out yesterday at Polo Ground.
In a press statement, the CLK Secretary, L Sanatombi Chanu stated that the women personnel check all parts of the bodies including the fronts in the presence of male police personnel which give a picture of the women being molested.
Asserting that it was a discriminatory act towards women and robbing their modesty and virtue, and violating their rights, the CLK statement stated that the public should not let the matter pass silently.
It further stresses that there is no harm in checking and verifying the women personally in a secluded place if they are suspected to be undergrounds.
The statement also cautions the women personnel not to carry out such act in the future while also urging the Home Minister and higher ups of the police department to initiate measures to end such kind of unsolicited act immediately.
The statement also charged the government of failing to protect the women from such violation of women's rights even as the International Day of Women, Mother's Day and Nupilan Day have been observed in the state.
It added that such kind of discriminatory act towards women may invite another Women's War (Nupilan).
