A team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) is expected to arrive at Imphal on May 18 to inspect the ongoing infrastructure development work of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at Porompat.
An official of JNIMS informed The Sangai Express that infrastructure development work of the medical institute has been completed by almost 70 percent and is expected to complete by 100 percent till the last week of June.
According to the guidelines prescribed by the MCI, a medical institute should have 300 beds and four Operation Theatres at the minimum.
At present, JN Hospital has more than 300 beds in addition to five Operation Theatres (OT).
Though the IOT is not functioning at present, it will be made functional shortly, the official informed.
Counting this IOT, JN Hospital would have six OTs very soon.
Altogether 17 departments will be opened in the institute.
The departments coming up in the institute include General Medicine, Physiology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Biochemistry, Paediatrics, Pharmacology, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, FSM, Anatomy, Pathology, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Opthalmology, Radio Diagnosis and ENT.
Sufficient faculty staff for all these departments have been appointed.
Maximum efforts were made in the last 4/5 months to complete construction of lecture hall, faculty block, central library, boys' hostel, girls' hostel and other necessary infrastructure, claimed the official.
