Imphal, May 13 2009:
A son of Dr Naorem Iboton, Dean of Central Agriculture University (CAU), Iroisemba has been reportedly abducted in connection with ransom demand by some armed persons who identified themselves as members of the outlawed KCP.
The son identified as Roshan (20) was abducted by about 4 to 5 armed persons who came in a Maruti Van from the house of the Dean at Iroisemba Maning Leikai located close to the campus of the Univesity at around 8.40 am of May 11 .
The family members have lodged a complaint to the police in this regard.
Denouncing abduction for ransom demand and urging for the safe release of the abducted youth on humanitarian ground, people of the locality staged a Wakat Meepham today.
After the Wakat Meepham a public meeting was also held.
In connection with abduction of his son, Dr Iboton informed that at first the unidentified persons stationed their Maruti van near the gate of the house.
When Roshan and his mother went out to inquire, the unidentified persons said that the van has been broke down and requested for opening the gate while indicating their intention of entering the house.
However, when only one of them was asked to enter the gate, two persons armed with pistols forced their way and commanded to call out the head of the family for some important talks.
They also lingered in and around the house for almost one hour during which Dr Iboton was hiding in a room of the house.
Finally, the armed intruders said that they have to take along one of the family members, to which one Mohen, the eldest son of Dr Iboton and his wife volunteered to go.
But the armed persons singled out Roshan and took him away.
After being abducted Roshan, the family members received a phone call on the mobile phone of Roshan which he left behind in which the armed abductors who identified themselves as the members of KCP Pamel Meetei group communicated that Roshan would be released only after Rs 60 lakhs which constitutes 5 percent of the developmental fund of the University is given.
When Dr Iboton replied that he is only overseeing the developmental works being implemented by the Engineering Project of India Limited as deposit work of the university with one LK Singh as the contractor, the armed abductors insisted that atleast 30 lakhs should be given for securing safe release of his son.
Meanwhile, along with registering a FIR, Lamphel police have investigating into the incident.
