'A Far Cry' among awards list

NT (Ningthoujam Tombi) theatre's 'A Far Cry' has been nominated in 10 categories for the 7th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) 2012. Informing about the nomination of the theatre's play to newspersons at its Changangei Uchekon Lai Maning complex today, director of the play Ningthouja Deepak said the production has been shortlisted for the META festival play from March 1 till 7, which will precede the actual awards presentation ceremony.
Highlighting that one of its plays had also won acclaim at a previous festival of META, Deepak, who is also secretary of the Theatre said 'A Far Cry' is one of 10 plays nominated for the 'Best Play' award.
Other category of awards in which the play has been nominated include Best Director (Ningthouja Deepak), Best Stage Design (T Shachikumar), Best innovative Sound Design (N Tiken), Best Costume Design (K Priyobarta & T Memme, Best Female Actor (Nepram Dhanapati Devi), Best Supporting Actor-Male (Ningthouja Jayveda), Best Original Script (Budha Chingtham) and Best Choreographer (Ningthouja Deepak).
stating that a 37-member delegation of the Theatre would take part at the forthcoming festival during which 'A Far Cry' would be staged on March 6 at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi, Deepak said winner in the best play category would be awarded Rs 1 lakh.
Further informing that all the plays nominated for the award would be presented Rs 75,000, Deepak said the Theatre's production 'Mythical Surrenderees' had won the best play title at the META festival 2011 which also saw Budha Chingtham and himself (Deepak) respectively walking away with the best script and best choreographer awards.
Budha Chingtham, who was also present at media briefing said 'A Far Cry' is based on the calamitous situation being endured by the common public on a daily basis as a consequences of the ongoing armed conflict in Manipur.
It tells the tale of strain in the familial bond with relationship between a brother and a sister as the central theme of the play.
The forthcoming festival has a total of 268 entries for all over the country.
