Youth held in driver killing case

Imphal, February 11, 2012:
In connection with the suspicious death of a mini-truck driver yesterday, a youth has been handed over to the police by locals today.
A mini-truck driver Meinam Thoithoi (50) of Khongnang Pheidekpi under Singjamei PS was dropped at his home in a seriously injured condition at around 7pm yesterday by a youth identified as Thingujam Johnson (24) of the same locality.
When he was rushed to RIMS Hospital, the doctors at the hospital declared him as brought dead.
According to Thoithoi's the wife Bembem, the vehicle which her husband used to drive was rented to the electricity office, Chandel.
As such her husband frequently went to Chandel.
Though he told his wife that he would not go to Chandel yesterday, he had gone there.
He had with him a few bags of charcoal on his return.
He gave the charcoal bags to some hotels at Kakwa.
At around 7pm, Johnson came and called out one Rocky (nephew of the deceased Thoithoi).
When she enquired why he called out Rocky, Johnson informed that Thoithoi was seriously injured.
He was carried in the mini-truck which was by then driven by Johnson.
When Johnson was asked as to how it all happened, he replied that he found Thoithoi seriously injured near Kakwa CHC.
When he was further asked about the blood stain in the vehicle, he answered that he ran off a cat at Kakwa ground.
Suspicous of his conduct, Johnson was handed over to the Singjamei Police station later.
A case has been filed at Singjamei Police Station in this regard.
Forensic experts from the Manipur Police Forensic Science Laboratory had surveyed the place of the incident.
