Imphal, February 09 2010:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has strongly condemned strong words used by one Thouyangba against AMWJU spokesperson A Mobi for not publishing a press release left at the office of ISTV by KCP valley operation commander Susil Meitei.
A press release issued by AMWJU said that there is a standing resolution of AMWJU not to collect press releases from other media houses for publication if they are not delivered at offices of the respective media houses.
The same resolution has been already incorporated in AMWJU's code of conduct.
There is another resolution not to publish press releases issued by functionaries of armed organisations who have not issued press statements earlier or are unknown to the media.
It was also resolved that the chairman/president of the armed party or its former publicity in-charge should introduce/identify its new publicity in-charge to the media in case there is a reshuffle of posts within the party, the AMWJU reminded.
In line with these standing resolutions, the particular party was duly informed that media houses cannot publish the press release issued by Susil Meitei as he is unknown to the media.
AMWJU took strong exception to the harsh words used by the party against the spokesperson for putting across the union's code of conduct.
Saying that AMWJU never expected such conduct from a party fighting for a cause, it appealed to all groups to issue press releases in conformity to AMWJU's code of conduct in order to avoid such unwanted incidents in future.
