Imphal, February 09 2010:
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union, AMWJU condemned the use of harsh words by one Thouyanba of KCP to the spokesperson of AMWJU, A Mobi.
The incident relates to a press note left with ISTV from KCP valley operation commander, Sushil Meitei which other media houses in Imphal were supposed to collect and publish.
A press release, signed by its President, S Hemanta, stated that taking into account the present law and order situation in the state, the AMWJU and Editors had resolved not to print or telecast anything which are not handed or delivered directly to the concerned media house and that this resolution is part of the code of conduct framed by AMWJU.
Further, because of large number of armed groups in the state, they create confusions in the media as well as to the public when it comes to publishing their release.
To prevent occurrence of such confusions, AMWU and editors after numerous deliberations had decided not to publish any release to press/media signed by someone who has not issued any press release earlier, or in another sense who is not known or recognized by press/media and that the should first identify themselves to the press/media, said the release.
But unfortunately, when told that a press release signed by one Susil Meitei could not be published or telecast as it is contrary to all these norms and codes of AMWJU, strong and harsh words were used, said the release.
Taking the incident very seriously, the Union stated that such behaviour is not expected of a party which has come out to work for the people.
The release appealed to all the groups operating in the land to observe the code of conduct formulated by AMWJU when they issue press releases.
