Imphal, February 09 2010:
Even as various irregularities have been detected in issuing application forms for recruitment of 22 posts in the Jawarhal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Manipur Library Association has expressed some reservation against the qualification prescribed for these posts.
When The Sangai Express visited the Institute to inspect issuing of application forms today, it was detected that though the actual cost of the application for general category was just Rs 100, some individuals were seen selling the forms charging anything between Rs 150 and Rs 400 .
Though only one form is supposed to be issued against an individual waiting for his/her turn in the queue, one can get 4 to 5 forms easily, he or she cares to put an extra Rs 30 per form.
Many people were also seen standing in the queue since early morning to get the forms, but they were made to wait longer on the alleged ground that the copies of the form have been exhausted.
Meanwhile, an executive committee meeting of Manipur Library Association on February 6 has resolved to approach the authority concerned for reviewing the qualification prescribed against the posts to be recruited.
Informing this in a statement, publicity secretary of the Association H Rajendra Singh asserted that the Association feels the urgent need for reviewing the PGDCA qualification prescribed against the post of Chief Librarian, Dy Librarian, Documentation Librarian and Cataloguer.
Rajendra contended that for these posts, graduate in any subject from a recognised institute and Master's degree in Library Science/Documentation Science/Library and Information Science would be more appropriate instead of prescribing BA/BSc/B Com.
As library has been computerised today and adequate papers on computer application have been included in the degree courses of Library and Information Sciences of every Indian Universities, the prescription of PGDCA as an essential qualification is not relevant so much.
He further said that for the post of Library Assistant, the prescribing graduate and B Lib Science as essential qualification would be more appropriate as these qualifications is being followed in various technical institutes including medical institutes, colleges and universities of India.
If UGC norm is to be followed then PhD/NET/SLET would be essential.
So, local candidates who are degree holders of M Lib Science and have related work experience but do not have PGDCA qualification should be given a chance to apply and try their luck.
