Imphal, February 09 2010:
The State Government is mulling over posting JN Hospital doctors who cannot be absorbed in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at districts hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres.
Speaking to some media persons in his office chamber this afternoon, Health Minister Ph Parijat said that the new policy would ameliorate the problem of shortage of doctors in remote and far off areas.
Doctors who have completed Post Graduate and working under the Health Department would be assumed as having teaching experience.
As such, they would be allowed to join JNIMS as Assistant Professors.
But they should face a DPC conducted by JNIMS society.
Doctors who cannot not join JNIMS would be given postings in different places, Parijat said.
The State Government has no capacity to interfere in the affairs of JNIMS like appointment.
It is the exclusive domain JNIMS Society, he clarified.
Above the 59 specialist doctors presently working under Health Services, another 24 specialists doctors are required.
To make up this shortage, the State Government has initiated certain measures to reinstate retired specialist doctors on contract basis, the Health Minister said.
Under this initiative, reinstated retired specialists would be paid Rs 10,000 plus the salaries they got before retirement, he said.
On the other hand, the Working Committee of JN Hospital Employees' Welfare Association held a meeting on February 7 and deliberated on official order issued by Secretariat, Health Department on January 16 .
The meeting studied the Government order which said that doctors under Health Services would be put in the category of non-teaching staff in JNIMS for the first three years after which the doctors may leave JNIMS if they wish so.
The meeting decided to continue working under Health Services without joining JNIMS.
