Renowned Manipuri poet and writer RK Madhubir Singh passed away at his Sagolband Thangjam Leirak residence after a brief illness yesterday.
A poet of repute, Madhubir was also known for his translation works and critiques.
He wrote both in English as well as in Manipuri.
He was honoured with the Sahitya Parishad award for his Pralaygee Meirilaktagi, a book of poetry in 1996.Manipuri Literary Society, Imphal has condoled the death of the poet and said that the void left by his demise will never be filled up.
A condolence meeting was held today with Society president Dr Sagolsem Lanchenba Meetei in the chair and the members observed a two minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
The staff and students of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal have also mourned the death of the poet and Sahitya Akademi awardee RK Madhubir who served as an English lecturer at the school for a long time till his retirement.
