As part of the ongoing mass agitation for complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, the Co-ordination Committee for Removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958, Keibi had organized torch rallies on September 4 and 5.People in large number, cutting across community line took part in the protest demonstrations and shouted slogans in unison denouncing excesses of the security personnel and demanding removal of the black laws from Manipur.
The villages and localities which took full part in the demonstrations are Nongsum, Khamenlok, Khupibung Chonglangphai, Agayang, Thumbol, Joldalphai, Chagyang, Goboyang, Uyumpok, Lamkoikhul, Taretkhul, Keibi Kumuda, Keibi Awang Leikai, Keibi Mayai Leikai, Keibi Makha Leikai, Keikakmapal, Tiger Camp, Pangantabi, S Phailen, Shadu Gram, Purum Nepali, Purum Khulen, P Thingjon, Happy Village, Uyumpok Maning Leikai and Uyumpok Terapur.
The rallyists coming various directions later converged at Heiki High School ground and took a firm resolution of continuing the ongoing agitation till the demands of the people with regard to removal of black laws, punishment of killers of Manorama and Jamkholet Khongsai, etc are met.
The gathering also paid tributes to Pebam Chittaranjan and Konjengbam Memita who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the people and observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed soul.
A 12-hour general strike has also been observed successfully in these areas from 5 am to 5 pm of September 5.
