Academic atmosphere in the State and conduct of normal classes in schools and colleges remain impaired for the fourth consecutive day today following the indefinite class boycott agitation as part of the ongoing demand for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
Meanwhile, many more schools and colleges have followed suit and volunteered to join the class boycott agitation.
Student unions of CI College and Oriental College have announced their decision to boycott classes demanding lifting of AFSPA from Manipur and punishment of the guilty AR personnel involved in the killing of Thangjam Manorama and Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai.
The student union of CI College has also announced an indefinite class boycott stir while the student union of Oriental College has boycotted all the classes from September 6 to 8.Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal too has joined the agitation with the student union of the college declaring its decision to boycott classes indefinitely.
Students and staff of the college also staged a sit-in-protest demonstration inside the college campus today and later the agitating students burnt their text books in protest.
Students of SI Boarding School, Canchipur, Oasis Science Higher Secondary Education have also announced their decision boycott classes till the demands of the people are fulfilled.
SD Jain Mahavir Higher Secondary School, Paona Bazar today observed a one-day token class boycott as a mark of protest against the indifferent attitude of the Government to the demands of the people with regard to removal of black laws and punishment of guilty AR personnel.
Similarly, the students and staff of Sagolband English School also boycotted their classes today.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Students� Union (AMSU), Singjamei Branch has lambasted the State Govt for its indifferent attitude to the demands of the people even after the students� community as a whole has launched class boycott agitation for the last four days.
On the other hand, a large number of students from Kumbi Govt High School, Kumbi Awang High School, Yaima Model Girls� High School, Young Pioneer English High School and Ithai High School who came to surrender their text books to the residence of Kumbi Kendra MLA and Minister N Mangi were dispersed by police with firing of tear gas canisters and rubber bullets.
