Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said that if someone comes forward to broker peace talks with insurgent groups in the northeast, the Government would extend all support to the move.
Asked if the Centre would favour to form a committee like the one headed by noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani on the Kashmir issue, Patil clarified that the committee was not a Government initiative, but "individual".
He was quick to add that the Government would offer all kinds of help and assistance if somebody does come forward with such a proposal.
The Home Minister reiterated that he had extended invitation to all, without any "pre-condition", to discuss "complicated" issues with the Government to bring peace and normalcy in the region.
Asked to what extent the situation in the Northeast should deteriorate to warrant a visit of the Prime Minister, a Patil said that the PM was looking at all problems of the region.
