The Zomi Students� Federation (ZSF) Headquarters today issued a press release condemning the kidnapping of six persons by UGs on September 2, 2004 at Zezaw village between Lamka and Singngat village.
Three out of six kidnapped from a bus were subsequently released, but three others remained in the UGs custody, it said.
The Federation expressed deep concern over the kidnapping of civilians without any provocation even as slogans of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence are raised, and said that the incident has sent shock waves throughout the district.
It appeals to the captors to release the three persons viz, Pausanglian s/o Thongkhanthang of Saikul village; Lamneimang s/o Thangcha of Sinjawl village and Kaplunmang s/o Nengnang of Behiang village.
Sources added that the presence of numerous militant groups along Guite Road has greatly inconvenienced and threatened the security of the people.
Cases of militant groups stopping and checking all vehicles along the road and dragging out young people suspected to be rival groups have increased greatly, it said.
In the meanwhile, the DC/CCpur today convened a meeting of various voluntary organizations in the district at the DC Office here at 3 pm.
The meeting discussed various issues relating to law and order in the district.
The DC expressed appreciation of the role played by various bodies in keeping the district quiet and calm during the last one month.
Lightning damages phones: The heavy rains and accompanying thunder and lightning last Saturday afternoon has damaged about 300 to 400 phones in Churachandpur, sources said.
Mobile phones are also not working.
