Imphal, September 04, 2010:
A one-day convention on HIV/AIDS was organised today at Khurai Sajor Leikai by the Manipur Legislators' Forum on HIV/AIDS (MLFA) in association with the Khurai Kendra Development Committee.
The convention held at constituency level was attended by MLA Bijoy Koijam, MLFA council member Dr Ng Bijoy, MLFA secretary Dr I Ibohalbi, MLFA members Y Surchandra, Morung Makunga and Th Nandakishore as presidium members.
MACS deputy director Dr S Manikanta and former Mr Manipur Pradikumar spoke at the convention as resource persons.
Speakers addressing the convention observed that HIV/AIDS has claimed a large number of people as a silent killer since 1990. To eradicate this silent killer, efforts of the relevant authority and the Government would never be enough.
It demands active participation of the people, they asserted.
Those infected or afflicted by the disease should be given opportunity to take lead roles in combating HIV/AIDS.
Calling upon the people not to harass or discriminate those people living with HIV/AIDS, the speakers also appealed to all those affected by HIV/AIDS not to keep their health status concealed for fear of stigma or otherwise.
