Imphal, September 04, 2010:
The Secular Progressive Front (SPF) Government led bythe Congress has failed in all sectors including development aspects.
With corruption and bribery eating into the vitals of the State administration, Manipur is literally entangled in myriad issues.
The situation demands the womenfolk to spearhead different kinds of mass movement, asserted BJP Mahila Morcha president Smiriti Irani today.
Smiriti Irani arrived here this afternoon on a two-day visit to the State.
She attended a meeting of the Mahila workers' unit of BJP State unit at its office at Nityaipat Chuthek.
Addressing the BJP women workers, Smiriti Irani alleged that the Congress-led SPF Government has not been doing anything for development of the State.
Consequent upon the failure of the State Government in all aspects of administration, Manipur is now embroiled in different issues, she asserted.
Under such circumstances, Manipuri women particularly BJP Mahila workers should rise as one and tackle the issues with a firm determination by launching different mass movements.
BJP Central leaders would extend necessary support to all kinds of democratic movements launched by Manipuri women and work to find meaningful solutions.
The grit and courage of Manipuri people who fought valiantly against the British imperialists have been systematically suppressed by the Government of Manipur, the BJP Mahila Morcha president alleged.
Issues and problems being faced by Manipuri women have never been taken into consideration by the Congress Government at New Delhi.
Sonia Gandhi turns a deaf ear to the voices of dissent and woes raised by Manipuri women, she asserted.
Even as no Congress leader visited Manipur when its people were facing a serious crisis due to prolonged economic blockades on National Highways, people BJP leaders made it a point to visit the State and took up the issue in Parliament, Smiriti Irani stated.
It is shameful that Congress and CPI are still running a coalition Government in Manipur whereas the same parties have snapped their relations at the Centre.
The Congress party has forfeited itself public faith when it came to development of the State.
She went on to accuse the State Government of encouraging black marketing.
Announcing that the BJP has formulated a policy for economic alleviation of BJP Mahila workers by forming self help groups, she said that necessary arrangements would be made to organise exhibitions for different products produced by SHGs.
She said that problems of Manipuri women were deliberated during the BJP Mahila executive meeting held on August 30. BJP State unit president Sh Shantikumar lamented that the condition of Manipur deteriorated into the present stage as majority of voters cast their votes in exchange of money rather than electing candidates who would serve the people.
He further appealed to the people to elect BJP candidates in the next Assembly candidates so that the party can work in serve the people more meaningfully.
The workers' meet was also addressed by Mahila Morcha national vice-president A Sarda and BJP North East Zonal organising secretary P Chandrasekhar.
