A highly reliable source in the MPCC said that Gaikhangam is likely to stay out of contesting elections to retain the post of president for the next term.
The MPCC chief, who is currently camping in New Delhi along with the Chief Minister, O Ibobi, in connection with election to the AICC president since September 1, is scheduled to come back tomorrow.
After their return in the state capital, the matter of election to the post of MPCC is likely to settle, the source disclosed.

Central leaders of the party would also come out after the two state leaders arrived here, the source added.
Mention may be made that a party source had hinted of holding the election to the post of president of MPCC with some group come out openly in support of MLA E Dwijamani who is also the chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board for the post.
While, some are in favour of electing Gaikhangam who is to complete his second consecutive term in the post, for the third term in the backdrop of upcoming elections to the Assembly elections in the early part of 2012. Gaikhangam is yet to say out any comment in this regard for the time being even as talks are around in the party for the election scheduled to hold on September 17. But a party source said that he is out of believed in contesting the election if rival candidates filed nomination for candidature.
