Imphal, May 04 2023:
At least six student organisations have appealed to the Government to take up concrete actions to restore peace in the State.
The student organisations are MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS and another student organisation.
A joint statement of the six organisations asked the Centre and the State Government to take responsibility for the unrest witnessed in Churachandpur and some other places yesterday (May 3) .
Claiming that the Government has been sidelining the demand to identify the foreigners residing in Manipur and save the land and identity of the indigenous people, the student organisations alleged the unrest seen in some hill districts was the doing of the Government.
Further alleging that the indigenous people have been exposed to many threats while the foreigners have encroached on the reserved forest, it claimed that the population growth in some districts was unnatural.
The statement further claimed that many new villages have been established in Manipur without following any procedure.
Accusing the Centre of colluding with outsiders to exterminate the people of Manipur, it asked why the Centre is hesitating to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur.
Asking further the Central Government to declare Manipur as not an Indian State if they cannot protect the boundary and people of Manipur, the joint statement asked the people of Manipur to not fall in the trap of the 'divide and rule' policy of the Centre.
