Kakching, May 04 2023:
A young married woman was found hanging at her residence under suspicious circumstances at Langmeidong Makha Maning Leikai under Waikhong Police Station in Kakching district yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Sagolsem ningol Yumnam ongbi Henthoi Devi (21 yrs), wife of Yumnam Sadananda s/o Y Rajenkumar of Langmeidong Makha Maning Leikai.
Alleging that the death of Henthoi as a case of homicide, a sit-in protest was staged today at Langathel Mamang Leikai which is the paternal place of Henthoi demanding to book the culprits involved in her suspicious death.
Speaking to the media at the sidelines of the protest, sister -in-law of Henthoi, Sagolsem (O) Piyainu raised suspicion over the death of Henthoi since they were not informed about her death by the family members of her husband but by the members of their locality.

Recounting the unpleasant incidents which occurred during the wedding ceremony of Henthoi and Sadananda, she said that family members and relatives of Henthoi were allegedly beaten up by the groom's side.
Subsequently, efforts were made to end the solution amicably at the Police station where the groom's side assured that no maltreatments will be extended to Henthoi, she added.
But contrary to the agreement, her in-laws did not allow Henthoi to contact her family or relatives despite many efforts made from their side to resolve the issue, Piyainu said.
Expressing discontent over the manner of Henthoi's death, Piyainu urged the authorities concerned to probe the incident and book the culprits involved in the alleged murder of Henthoi at the earliest.
Henthoi's sister Nunsghi who was also present at the protest expressed dismay that they were not allowed to see the body of Henthoi.
She continued that the in-laws of Henthoi failed to inform them of her death but their residence was already guided by the Commandos when they went there after receiving the news from the members of their locality.
The place where Henthoi was found to be hanging is also very high, which is not possible for her to climb, she said.
She further claimed that the police denied them permission to take videos or photos of the place which is really unfortunate.
In view of the above suspicions, she sought the attention of the State Government to investigate Henthoi's death to bring forth the truth.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has also been formed against the death of Henthoi.
The JAC convenor Moirangthem Ibochouba cautioned that intense agitation will be taken up along with the support of CSOs in the State if the authorities concerned fail to provide befitting punishment to the culprits.
