Imphal, May 04 2023:
The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has appealed to all communities of Manipur to maintain communal harmony in the present situation of communal rift and reconcile their differences through dialogue.
It has also called a protest in Delhi tomorrow in which individuals and organizations from different North-East communities will be participating.
The present situation of conflict between communities is due to the role of the State Government in causing animosity among different communities for cheap political motives, said a statement issued by NEFIS.
The complete failure of the State institutions and the indifference of the state police in stopping violence led to the death of many people, destruction of homes and displacement of people.
In communal conflicts, it is the poor and labouring masses who suffer, and political profits are reaped by those having vested interests, it said.
Meanwhile, some hatemongers are spreading communal hatred and threatening communal harmony in the State.
This is a serious issue that is exacerbating the volatile situation in the State, and it is feared that it might go out of control if immediate and strict action is not taken against hatemongers, NEFIS said.
It is also imperative that the State ensure there is no vilification of any community and that social justice is not denied to any community.
"NEFIS also condemns the role of the Manipur Government in creating such a situation where different communities found themselves at loggerheads with each other.
At present, the situation is specially dire for the poor and labouring masses of all communities, and NEFIS implores people of all communities to maintain communal harmony and resolve differences through dialogue", it added.
