With the main objective of ensuring that the next Govt in power takes up some concrete measures toward solving the problem of illegal migrant population in the State, a political dialogue on introduction of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur is being organised on Dec 5 at Hotel Imphal here.
The political dialogue is being organised jointly by Inner Line Permit Demand Committee (ILPDC) and Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS).
Addressing a joint press conference at the office of FREINDS this afternoon, ILPDC convenor Sapamcha Jadumani and FREINDS vice president T Sarat said discussion during the scheduled political dialogue would centre around three main points.
These are compulsory inclusion of the issue of introduction of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur in the election manifestos of all the regional and national political parties in the forthcoming State Assembly election, taking up the issue as the main agenda during the election campaign by candidates of all the political parties in all the 60 Assembly Constituencies and its implemented by the next Govt which would be formed after the election.
Invitations have been send to all the political parties in Manipur for taking part in the political dialogues, they said, while requested for sending responsible persons of their respective political parties in the said political dialogue.
Stressing on the urgency of reintroducing the abolished Inner Line Permit system in Manipur, ILPDC convenor Sapamcha Jadumani reiterated that after the Inner Line Permit System was abolished on November 18, 1950, the number of illegal migrants in Manipur has increased manifold so much so that out of the total population of 22,93,896 in accordance to 2001 census, the total number of illegal migrants in Manipur has reached 7,04,488 as against the total indigenous tribal population of 6,07,782.In view of the threat posed to the socio-economic life of the indigenous population people by the influx migrants, FREINDS met the Chief Minister on July 2 this year and proposed reintroduction of the abolished permit.
Following the meeting, the matter had also been placed on the floor of the Assembly by the Chief Minister himself.
Since the Govt not yet taken any definite stand on the issue of reintroduction of the abolished permit, the political dialogue on introduction of Inner Line Permit in Manipur has been mooted to ensure that the next Government which would come to power takes up some concrete steps toward this end, FREINDS vice president explained.
