The foundation stone of a division office of Minor Irrigation Department (MID) was laid today at Lamlai Napetpalli by MI Minister P Parijat.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Parijat noted that the Minor Irrigation Department closely associated with farmers and cultivation need to be strengthened as majority of the State's population are farmers.
Only when the MID is strengthened, Manipur can realise its aspiration of becoming self-sufficient.
As such he appealed for cooperation from the people in the various welfare activities under taken by the Department.
Saying that the Imphal East district is one of the most backward districts of Manipur, the Minister remarked that MI office being constructed at Napetpalli would benefit not only Imphal East district but also farmers of some neighbouring districts.
While appealing to the people not to make any hindrance in the construction of the office, Parijat said that the office would be completed within about 2 months and a half and handed over to people
thereafter.
The Minister further instructed all officials concerned to execute the construction work in full swing.
He assured them prompt supply of all
necessary materials.
In his presidential speech, Chief Engineer of MID, AR Shah said that the new division would be semi-pucca and would comprise of only ground floor.
However, there would be fencing work around the office building which would occupy about 150/160 sq feet, Shah mentioned.
The construction work and its infrastructure is expected to cost Rs 40 lakhs.
The jurisdiction of the office would encompass Ukhrul district and Saikul besides Imphal East district.
With the construction of irrigation tanks and installation of pumps for irrigation, the MI office would be able to contribute significantly in bringing green revolution in the State, he noted while appealing to the people to treat the office as their own property.
The function was also addressed by the Councillor of Lamlai Nagar Panchayat Thangjam Memi as guest of honour.
