Health Care Organisation (HCO), Manipur submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during the latter's short visit to Imphal yesterday highlighting the problems of health care in Manipur.
The memorandum signed by its general secretary K Meghachandra Meetei specifically pointed out the problems being faced in JN Hospital at Porompat and other district hospitals which are under the Government of Manipur.
The memorandum observed that the health care facilities being provided by the Government hospitals in Manipur is in a precarious condition and not enough.
For instance, in the JN hospital at Porompat where the number of beds is 200, there is acute shortage of essential medicines, equipments and other required infrastructures, the memorandum said, adding that the situation is no different in other district hospitals located in different parts of the State.
In such a scenario, the memorandum urged the Prime Minister for taking up necessary action to properly maintain the health related institutions with modern equipments and facilities in the interest of poorer section of the society who could not afford expensive medical treatments in private hospitals.
