All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has destroyed Khaini (both Raja packets and tinned varieties) and Talab worth around Rs 3,12,240 by consigning them to flames in public presence in front of the office of Chingamathak Young Learners' Club this evening.
While talking to media-persons at the site, a spokesperson of AMADA informed that the said consignment of the banned Khaini and Talab consisting of 31,956 packets of Raja Khaini in 5 sacks, 1,38,00,13 Khaini cans in 13 cartons and 84,120 pieces of Talab in 4 sacks were seized from an autorickshaw coming from Kangpokpi.
According to the spokesperson, following a special tip off, volunteers of AMADA went to Kangpokpi in a Tata Sumo at around 2.50 pm on December 1.On seeing a loaded autorickshaw bearing registration bearing registration no.MN01N-0728 moving about suspiciously, AMADA volunteers followed it.
But it sped off without even making entries at the check posts.
On the following day at around 4 pm, AMADA volunteers saw the autorickshaw driving inside Kakhulong.
However, with exception to the driver of the autorickshaw, all occupants who were inside have escaped already.
The seizure was finally made at around 2 pm.
The driver of the autorickshaw has been identified as Haobijam Johnson (22) of Keibul Lamjao Mamang Leikai but presently staying at Palace Compound area of Imphal East district.
One alleged owner of the seized Khaini and Talab identified as Deepak Sahu (24) who hails from Bihar but presenting staying at Telipati area of Imphal surrendered to AMADA that day.
But at around 2.30 pm today, two persons who are the actually real owners of the autorickshaw and the seized consignment of the banned narcotic items came forward to surrender to AMADA.
They have been identified as Ganesh Prasad (33) and Manoj Prasad (19).Both of them are from Bihar but presently staying at Kakhulong, Paona Bazar.
Both of them reportedly prevailed upon Deepak Sahu to go and claim as the owner of the seized items.
It has also been established that the consignment of the banned substances was meant for supplying to Pintu Stores and Lalu Stores located at Majid Road.
The spokesman further informed that two Maruti Vans, one cream-colour Maruti Van bearing registration no.2818 and another white colour which were also loaded with banned narcotic substances escaped while chasing after the autorickshaw.
It has been found out that one Sanjoy was inside the cream-coloured Maruti Van while one Ramayan inside the white-coloured Van, the spokesperson said, while asking both of them as well as the owners of Pintu Stores and Lalu Stores to surrender to AMADA within Dec 5.
