Imphal, December 03:
As part of the year long UNIDEP (Unity, Development and Peace) campaign, a public discussion programme was held today at Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur district.
Speaking at the occasion, advisor of AMUCO Dhanabir Laishram elaborated on the underlying theme of the campaign.
He said that unity, development and peace are not new words.
The UNO and the Government of India have been using these words as their slogans and objectives.
Unlike the perception of the Union Government that development would automatically follow once there is peace, the UNIDEP campaign was launched with the firm belief that peace would become a reality only when there is unity and development, he explained.
He further elaborated his point saying that there was peace and harmony before 1980 in Manipur and on the other hand, Arunachal Pradesh believed to be one of the most backward among the Northeastern States, is ironically one of the most peaceful State.
