Unhappy with the ambiguous stand of the Prime Minister when he announced that certain provisions of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 would be amended, Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been fasting in protest against the Act has not only refused nose feeding and other medical treatment, but has also refused to be looked after.
Sharmila has been demanding the complete repeal of the Act.
Presently lodged in room number 57 of the new private ward of AIIMS after she was picked up by Delhi police from Jantar Mantar, Sharmila is continuing her six year old fast demanding total scrapping of the Act.
According to information received from New Delhi, Sharmila has refused nose feeding and other medical treatment soon after hearing the announcement of the Prime Minister during a visit to Manipur yesterday.
She has not even allowed her own brother Irom Singhajit and other Manipuri girl students studying at the Delhi who used to spend the nights in her room on roster basis, to take care of her and visit her, saying she wants to die and does not want to cause inconvenience to anybody now.
Meanwhile, demanding removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and save the life of Irom Chanu Sharmila, a Wakat Meepham was staged at Sangaithel Bazar today.
The protest meeting attended by a large number of people including representatives of Kabui, Chiru and Koireng communities as well was organised by Village Women Co-ordinating Committee, Imphal West.
