Under the sponsorship of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Moreh organised the 7th Free Education Programme of distributing text books and sponsoring admission to schools for needy students was held at Moreh Govt High School today.
SDC Moreh Ph Ibohal and president of Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Moreh S Tathotlei were chief guest and functional president of the event which was also attended by headmaster of Moreh Govt High School TT Haokip, advisor of Kuki Women Union on Human Rights Letkhoning Haokip, Muslim woman leader Rasida Begum and Jubeda Begum of Muslim Women Development Association as guests o honour.
SDPO Moreh Md Husna Jamana was also present at the occasion as special invitee.
During the function, text books have been distributed free of cost to 60 poor students studying in class I to VIII.
In his address as chief guest of the function, Ph Ibohal appreciated the contribution being made by Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup in the field of development of education.
Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the State Government has been making effort to impart education to the students.
Along with this, the efforts being made by the MSF and the Nupi Khunai Lamjing Lup in their own way is commendable, he said.
He also donated a sum of Rs 1000 toward the cause of providing education to students coming from poor families.
SDPO Moreh advised the students by saying that taking the text books which were distributed today and simply keeping them at home would not serve the purpose of promoting education.
So these text books have to be read and studied to gain knowledge, he said.
General secretary of Poirei leimarol Apunba Lup, Manipur L Apabi and advisor of AMOVA L Leirenton Devi who come all the way from Imphal were also among the representatives of various communities, leaders and students who were present at the occasion.
