Imphal, April 03:
The office of the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Zone-II Imphal East located at Porompat was today stormed and ransacked by disgruntled teachers who were denied their salary when they came to collect the same following the announcement made through the newspapers to this effect.
In accordance to the announcement made through the newspapers, all the teachers working under Zonal Education Officer Zone-II came to the Ist MR Parade Ground to collect their salary but were confronted with a notice saying the salary could not be disbursed and related information may be obtained from the office of the ZEO concerned.

Consequently, the teachers came to the office of the ZEO at Porompat.
But on finding that all the officials related to the disbursement of salary including the ZEO K Biramangol, Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) Y Inaocha and Cashier Kh Muhindro were absent from duty, the infuriated teachers started ransacking the office.
All the furniture and window panes of the rooms of ZEO and DDO were damaged substantially when the incensed teachers gave vent to their anger at about 1.30 pm today.
The situation was, however, brought under control with the arrival of personnel from Porompat Police.
According to information received by the press, the Cashier had issued a notification to the effect that the pending salaries for the month of January and February would be paid to around 1250 teachers working in 322 schools (from LP to Junior High School) under A/C 10 of Imphal East district.
But as an underground organisation demanded Rs 1.5 lakhs, the salary could not be released to the teachers.
Later in the afternoon, a joint meeting of the teachers and ZEO was held during which the ZEO gave the assurance of disbursing the salary tomorrow.
A joint meeting of the teachers has also been convened at the office complex of the ZEO at 11 am tomorrow to discuss the matter.
