Citing the census report of march this year, Forest and Environment Minister Th Debendra today informed that the total population of the endangered brow-antlered deer locally called Sangai stands at 204 .
Responding to a query from ruling party's S Bira during the question-answer session, Debendra said Sangai-fodders are being planted at their natural habitat in abundance while local volunteers are being engaged to assist forest department staff in protecting the endangered species and conducting awareness campaigns.
Strengthening Sangai protection apparatus, one range office and two check posts have been established last year, maintained the Minister and highlighted that to promote tourism at the natural habitat of the Sangais watch towers have been erected at 4-5 different locations.
To a poser from MLA P brojen, Education Minister M Okendro said that some educational institutions under the Education Department are established at patta land while a few others do not possess such documents.
On MLA Th Shyamkumar's query, the Education Minister assured to look into possibility of service regularisation of contract basis lecturers of higher secondary schools.
