Joint Committee on Umanglai (JCU) today expressed thanks to the Manipur Government for issuing a gazette notification to withhold the Shri Shri Govindaji Temple (Third Amendment) Bill, 2014 .
"We thank the State Government for withholding the Shri Shri Govindaji Temple (Third Amendment) Bill, 2014," JCU spokesperson M Naokhomba Meitei said while speaking to the media at Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) .
He, however, vowed to continue with JCU's demand for revocation of the controversial Bill that seeks to bring all umanglais (forest deities) under the Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board.
JCU, a body of 42 different organisations including UKAL suspended its agitation against the Bill passed in the eighth session of the State Assembly after the Government promised to withdraw it.
Naokhomba Meitei said the Government should not let the issue remain unresolved for long and pledged that agitation would continue if things are not set right on time.
