Imphal, December 23 2014:
Buoyed by the results of the Jammu & Kashmir and Jharkhand Assemblies polls, Manipur BJP president today took a jibe at the Congress and predicted that the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) would get no fewer than five seats in the State Assembly election expected to be held in 2017 .
Launching the party's mass enrolment drive at Heingang Constituency in Imphal East, the State BJP chief attacked the ruling Congress Government headed by Okram Ibobi Singh, saying the MPCC should not hope for more than five seats in the coming State Assembly election.
Buoyed by the results of both J&K and Jharkhand Assembly polls, Chaoba said, "The Congress will be routed in the coming State Assembly election" .
The BJP has established itself as a powerhouse in Jammu & Kashmir and emerged victorious in Jharkhand too in the just ended Assemblies polls of the two States.
He referred to Muslim dominated J&K and said the results of Assembly election of that State have shown that the Muslim population trust the BJP.
"The latest Indian election trend indicates people have faith in BJP," he said.
The former MP said as many as 50,000 membership forms have been taken by Muslims to join the party here.
"More than 50,000 Muslims in the State are going to join Manipur BJP by March next," Chaoba said.
He appealed to people to extend cooperation and support to the membership campaign of the BJP.
