NBA workshop held at Ukhrul

Most of the people in the interior parts of Manipur neglect the idea of construction of sanitary latrines and this causes many common diseases like diarrhea, dysentery and typhoid, said Director, CCDU PHED, Manipur.
L Swamikanta Singh, Director, CCDU PHED stated this while speaking as a resource person at a one-day workshop on Nirmal Bharat Abiyan (NBA) at Kasom Khullen, Ukhrul district in Manipur on Wednesday.
The workshop was organized by North East Border Area Development Organisation (NEBADO), Manipur and Kashung Bungtung, Kasom Khullen Sub-division in collaboration with Communication & Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), PHED, Lamphelpat, Imphal.
He said toilet is essential for every household to keep up with hygienic way of living and hence the Government takes up schemes like CCDU with an objective to put up one toilet each for every family.
In respect of Manipur, over 62 percent of BPL households have been provided with sanitary latrine facilities so far, he said and informed that each latrine was constructed at the cost of Rs 6000 .
Diseases like diarrhea, dysentery and typhoid are mainly caused by lack of good toilet facility, he further said while talking about rain water harvesting and how to keep clean water.
Paiso Keshing, president, NEBADO moderated the discussion.
Pamreishang Shinglai, Section Officer, PHED, Ukhrul and Johnson Keishing, social worker also spoke at the workshop as resource persons.
