Imphal, April 05 2011:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has strongly condemned the killing of an innocent woman because of indiscriminate firing by Assam Rifles on April 2 at Thoubal.
Saying that the Chief Minister and the MLA have been working hard to avert any mass movement against the killing by promising Court of Enquiry, job to the bereaved and a large amount of money, the AMUCO asked how many security forces have been punished under the Indian law for killing thousands of Manipuris.
Pledging that AMUCO would extend unstinted cooperation to any mass movements launched by the public and JACs against killings and violence, it called upon the public to be always vigilant so as to avoid unwarranted and brutal killings.
Taking strong exception to the killing of Irom Rojer of Wangkhei Angom Leikai by IFCD and YAS Minister N Biren's son Ajay with a licensed gun on March 20 during Yaoshang festival, AMUCO said that it viewed such crimes committed by sons/relatives of powerful and influential people as more serious than crimes committed by security forces under AFSPA .
People's angst against the crime died down suddenly when the bereaved family claimed the corpse of Rojer for last rites though the family and the particular JAC later clarified that they have not struck any agreement with the Government.
As there was no concrete movement against the killing of Rojer, AMUCO could not say anything in time.
"Though it is little late, AMUCO strongly condemns such crimes committed by sons of powerful persons", conveyed a press release issued its publicity secretary NC Modhuchandra.
It also shared the pain and grief being endured by the bereaved family.
