Imphal, March 05 2016 :
Kairembikhok Students Union and Club has sought a clarification from PHE Minister I Hemochandra regarding his statement given in the State Assembly that the water supply scheme at Kairembikhok Awang Leikai is still functioning.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, club secretary Usham Surchand said that the water supply scheme is now defunt and no more providing water to the villagers.
Construction of the water supply scheme began in 1990 and the then PHE Minister TN Haokip dedicated the scheme to the public on February 26, 2010 .
The scheme became defunt after it provided water for three months, he said.
Responding to a question raised by Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen in the State Assembly, I Hemochandra responded that the scheme is still providing water to the public, Surchand said.
Asking the Minister to tell the place where the scheme is providing water, Surchand said that all the villagers wish to fetch water.
Although, the water supply scheme is defunct since the past couple of years, I Hemochandra told the House that the scheme is still providing water, he said.
Moreover, MLA Paonam Brojen who brought the issue to the House instead of arguing the Minister sat down silently saying 'thank you' to him, Surchand said.
Paonam Brojen must also clarify why he was so happy when the PHE Minister told him that the water supply scheme is functioning although the MLA knew that it is already defunct.
People of the area would not only boycott the MLA but also lock the water supply scheme if he fails to clarify on the matter.
