Imphal, December 01 2015:
Saying that acquisition of agricultural land and complete restruc-turing of Imphal city may evoke strong objections, Babina Healthcare and Hos-pitality Industries managing director Dr Th Dhaballi has suggested that it would be better if a Smart city can be developed from the existing structure and lay-out.
Acquisition of land for development of Imphal city would create many problems as most of these vacant areas are being used for agricultural purposes.
More- over, any attempt to acquire non-agricultural land within and at the outskirts of Imphal is most likely to encounter strong resistance.
The best option to develop a Smart city is starting the development work from the existing structure and landscape, Dr Dhaballi said.
Incorporation of parking space at the time of constructing Government as well as private buildings would go a long way in easing traffic congestion on the streets of Imphal city, he continued.
He further suggested incorporation of adequate space for the urban poor as and when a Smart city is developed at Imphal.
Following the Chief Secretary's invitation to the people to post/submit suggestions on the concept and model of developing a Smart City at Imphal, many citizens have come forward with varied suggestions.
