Imphal, December 01 2015:
As in other parts of the country, BSF Sector Hqs (CI Ops), Manipur celebrated the golden jubilee of BSF Raising Day today.
After Indo-Pak war of 1965, the Government of India felt the need for a specialised Central force, which would be armed and trained to man the International border with Pakistan, said a BSF statement.
As a result, BSF came into existence on December 1, 1965 with KF Rustamji as its first Chief.
BSF was established by amalgamating different State armed police battalions, added the statement.
It claimed that BSF Sector Hqs (CI Ops) Manipur and the units under its command rendered significant contributions to the society in Manipur by conducting a number of civic action programmes, medical and blood donation camps at different parts of the State this year.
Troops of BSF also planted 13,760 saplings of different fruit bearing and ornamental trees in the State this year.
On the joyous occasion of its Raising Day, BSF offered salute to the martyrs of the paramilitary force.
