Imphal, August 01 2013:
AMSU, Universal Mothers' Organisation, CADA's women and child affair section and JACs constituted against different rape cases have urged the authorities to deliver justice to all rape victims, particularly girl students, by way of awarding exemplary punishment to all the culprits as per the law of the land.
Speaking to media persons at AMSU office today, AMSU Imphal East secretary Thouba Laishram decried that there have been many cases of rape of girl students even the kids studying in primary level.
He urged the police department to investigate thoroughly into all these rape cases and file charge-sheets promptly.
No accused in police custody should be allowed to go out on bail and police should ensure that other accused still at large are pulled at the earliest.
Thoubal also sought immediate attention of the Education Minister to the rape cases of TG Higher Secondary School student, Universal College, class VI student of Bishnupur Ward No 11, class IV student of Phaknung and the class III student of Nungoi.
AMSU would not remain silent if police or other actors try to delay justice delivery or release the accused on bail or facilitate negotiation for settlement of the cases with monetary compensation.
UMO president Ningthoujam Sorojini lamented that crimes against women have been rising in spite of all the mass campaigns and outcry against such crimes.
It is a clear indication that women are given little respect in the society.
All the culprits in involved in the rape of cases of TG Hr Sec School, Universal College and three minors should be awarded exemplary punishment.
The nine year kid of Nungoi who was allegedly raped on July 17 has not regained her normal mental state till date.
The girl is now suffering from male-phobia apart from undergoing serious trauma.
As such, the IO of the particular case should be a lady officer, Sorojini said.
The accused Athemba of Nungoi Litan Makhong is now kept at the observation home on the excuse that he is just 14 years old.
But he does not look like a 14 year old boy and his age needs confirmation, Sorojini said.
As for the accused who allegedly raped a minor disabled girl at Bishnupur Ward No 11, he has many criminal antecedents and police should not protect such criminal elements, she asserted.
Members of the JACs constituted in connection with the rape cases of Bishnupur Ward No 11, Lamlai Phaknung, Nungoi and TG Hr Sec School student were also present at the press meet.
