Imphal-Tupul railway line Railway Minister sets 2018 target

Union Minister of State (Railways) Rajen Gohain has stated that works are being done on war footing to complete Jiribam-Tupul section of Jiribam-Tupul railway project by 2018 .
Rajen Gohain who arrived here today on a two-day visit to the State went to Sihaibung and inspecting the tunnel construction work.
The MoS (Railway) was accompanied by BJP Manipur Pradesh president Ksh Bhabananda, Railway Constructions Chief Engineer Anil Kumar and Deputy Chief Engineer Yogesh.
The total length of the Jiribam-Tupul railway line is 110.62 Kms and the total revised estimated cost is Rs 9658 crore.
So far, Rs 4927.65 crore has been spent.
The Ministry has set a target of sanctioning Rs 1000 crore within the current financial year in order to speed up the railway construction work.

Expressing satisfaction that the railway project has been completed by 57.87 per cent, Rajen Gohain stated that the Ministry has set another target of completing the Tupul-Imphal section by December 2019 .
Jiribam-Tupul section which covers a distance of 84 Kms would have 37 tunnels and the longest one would be 39.4 Kms in length. There will be nine other tunnels between Tupul and Imphal which are 27 Kms apart.
There would be six major bridges in the Jiribam-Imphal railway line.
The railway line would also have 112 minor bridges along Jiribam-Tupul section and 27 other minor bridges in Tupul-Imphal section.
One of the bridge or tunnel would be named after freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu, Rajen Gohain informed while seeking suggestions from the public.
Notably, execution of the railway project started in 2004 and the project could be completed by only 22 per cent till 2014 .
However, between 2014 and 2017 when BJP came to the power at the Centre, the project progressed by 33 per cent.
Survey is going on for construction of a railway line from Imphal to Moreh but it will take some more time.
Local people would be given preference during recruitment of Grade IV and Grade III employees as and when the railway project is completed, Rajen Gohain assured.
