Stone crusher workers protest monetary demand

Workers of stone crusher units staged a protest demonstration at Khonghampat today against unaffordable monetary demands served by UG groups.
The protest demonstration was participated by workers employed in stone crusher units located between Mantripukhri and Kanglatongbi including Potshangbam.
Altogether 14 different UG groups including some factions of KCP-MC served monetary demands to the Northern Valley Stone Crusher Owners' Welfare Association ranging from Rs 3 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs.
On account of these demands, all the stone crusher units have stopped working since April 24 .
A similar protest demonstration was staged on April 27 even as there was a case of abduction of labourer in connection with monetary demands.
Meanwhile, the Northern Valley Stone Crusher Owners' Welfare Association has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today.
Though the memorandum, the association appealed to the State for protection from UG threats and also to thwart any abduction attempt connected to the monetary demands.
Other points of the memorandum were regular patrolling between Sekmai quarry and Keithelmanbi quarry and checking monetary demands served to trucks engaged in transportation of goods from the quarry or stone crusher units.
It further appealed to check collection of royalty by Forest Department twice and also safeguard them from UG threats.
