Imphal, April 29 2011:
Stating that the practice of selling/hawking things by occupying road sides, footpaths and bridges is unseen in other States of India, Chief Minister O Ibobi has appealed to all street vendors to move to Lamphel Super market where the Govt has allocated space for them.
Speaking at a special training programme about flagship programmes of UPA and SPF Govts organised by Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee at Congress Bhavan here today, Ibobi stated that it would be unmanageable for the Govt if vendors from all districts of the State would sell their wares in and Khwairamband Keithel only.
Occupying road sides, footpaths and bridges would create many problems in view of the ever rising number of commuters and vehicles.
If the people agree on removing Kangjeibung and the Sahid Minar, the Govt can make arrangements for the street vendors inside Khwairamband Keithel.
But this would be impossible, Ibobi stated while appealing to the street vendors to accept the Govt's plan of allocating space at Lamphel Super Market.
Once the vendors start business there, customers would certainly come there to buy things.
