Kom woman and Meetei man tie nuptial knot at Konung

Imphal, April 29 2011:
A Kom woman tied the nuptial knot with a Meetei man today at a simple ceremony held at Sana Konung as a symbol of peaceful co-existence among the different communities residing in the state.
Satro Baselisa daughter of Satro Lar of Tayong village in Senapati district, a Kom by origin, and Heikrujam Rituchandra son of Shyamkumar of Uchiwa Leirak Achouba of Imphal west tied the nuptial knot in a low-key ceremonial occasion attended only by nears and dears in the presence of King Sanajaoba.
The ceremony was held at Sana Konung on the request of the family of the Satro Baselisa who wanted to perform the ceremony in a much publicized manner after an understanding was brought about with the family of the bridegroom.
At first the Kom woman dressed up with Meetei traditional wedding attires but on the insistence of the king Sanajaoba, she replaced her attires with traditional Kom attire.
Doing so will help in maintaining the aged old long lasting, according to Sanajaoba.
Today's incident has recalled the more than 200 to 300 years old tradition of inter-caste marriage.
This will help in strengthening the bond of love among the different communities residing in the state since time immemorial, he said.
The bride Baselisa said that to her there is no difference among the communities.
Her decision to marry with a Meetei man help in strengthening the loosen love bond among the communities.
The man also promised that he will live happily with the woman.
