India for close ties with Mauritius

India is committed to the security of Mauritius and its citizens and the two Governments would join hands in fighting against every challenges that stand on the way towards ensuring the security of the Mauritian, President of India Pratibha Devi Singh Patil has stated.
Interacting with media-persons yesterday while returning from her four-day long official visit to the Island Nation, President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil said that India is committed to the security of Mauritius and its people and the stand of India to join hands with Mauritian Government in fighting against every challenges including the issue of piracy that has posed a threat to the security of the people, is firm.
President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil informed that the President and the Prime Minister of Mauritius have accepted the invitation to visit India and as to when the visit will take place will be decided through diplomatic channel.
The presence of President and Prime Minister of Mauritius at the time of conferring the Doctorate Honoris Causa by the Mauritius University on her was a significant reflection of the healthy relationship between the two countries, the President said.
She went on to disclose that talks between the leaders of the countries have focused mainly on multi-sectoral and vibrant partnership and joint co-operation in the field of trade and commerce to take forward the relationship between the two countries.
President Pratibha Patil expressed satisfaction over signing of MoUs by two private companies which were part of the business delegates that have accompanied her visit during the visit to Mauritius.On her address in the National Assembly of Mauritius, President Pratibha Patil said that her address was based mainly on the democratic principles that the two countries strongly believe.Before wrapping up her four-day long visit and leaving the Island Nation, President Pratibha Patil was honoured along with conferring the Doctorate Honoris Causa by Mauritius University.
She also went to the Mahatma Gandhi Institute and offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi there.
