In an attempt to encourage students of Government high schools to compete with the private run schools in Manipur, a new voluntary organisation dedicated solely for the cause-christening itself as the Mangal Manipur Nganhanba Apunba Lup (MMNAL) started distributing note books, pen, library facilities for a year, and other study materials free of costs to students of Government schools and orphanages in Imphal area.
In short, the NGO is to work for the students of economically poor families.
"We are naming our organisation 'Mangal' (meaning light) to enlighten students who are in the dark and deprived of competing the world," the newly floated Samaritan organisation president M Indramani said.
He said that to strengthen their cause the organisation has set up a library at Lamlai in Imphal East district so as to enable Government school students and orphan lend books free of cost.
The organisation is also scheming to arrange a computer centre for deprived students but interested in the filed.
Talking to inmates of an orphanage at Tera in Imphal West, the president encouraged the students to ask for their needs to become a good and promising student.
Calling for cooperation from teachers of government schools in their endeavour, the vice president of the organization, Nimai Koijam said that their aim is to strengthen government schools and to usher in quality education in Government schools.
The Mangal vice president opined that the low pass percentage from government schools in High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) is also due to the induction of fake teachers in the schools.
The Mangal has borne the expenses for admission of around 15 students since the start of this academic session while it is ready to do for the betterment of deprived students.
It may be mentioned that government schools of the state have been outperformed by private schools of the state in HSLC examination for the some years now.
This has become a concern for all in the State.
