Imphal, June 23:
A discussion session on the problems being faced in the efforts of ushering in quality education in Manipur was organised under the aegis of All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association at LS Talkies located at Thoubal Okram today.
Attended by a large number of teachers and students from various private schools of Thoubal district, the discussion session was held with advisor of All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association N Tomba, Association president H Biren and Ex-president Th Shyam Khaba respectively taking the dais as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour.
Participating in the discussion session, resource persons were unanimous in their opinion on the low standard of the existing education system in Manipur and said that this has given a serious impact on the society.
Stressing on collective responsibility for amending the existing education system, the resource persons noted that as a policy maker, the Govt should pay special attention towards making education a free zone along with providing the requisite infrastructures.
While appreciating the contribution of the private schools in development of education, the speakers, however, expressed concern over commercialisation of education on one hand, and the threat and intimidation from some quarters in the functioning of the schools on the other.
