In line with the proposal of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the State Government has decided to set up a State Biotechnology Advisory Committee.
This decision was adopted during an official meeting held on June 19 with Science & Technology and IT Commissioner S Budhachandra in the chair.
It was also agreed that the Commissioner would be the chairman of the proposed advisory committee.
During the meeting, Additional Director of Health Department Y Yaima put forth that the State has no expertise to look after negative effects gene therapy.
Director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Sustainable Development Prof M Ruhinikumar highlighted the need to control/regulate biotechnology in the State.
